The Grapevine Project was a collaborative project that brought together 120 artists, writers and creatives who each anonymously submitted an image, video or a piece of writing, which influenced the artwork of the next artist. Multidisciplinary artist Mim Robson initiated the idea during UK’s first lockdown in 2020.
Inspired by ‘Flying Boats’ by Kitty Greenbrown, my artwork is a playful response to the sense of adventure and freedom that the author beautifully expressed. The words conveyed much excitement about a seemingly strange event. So, I asked myself, is this a story about an extraordinary seaplane or something else?
My ideas explored nineteenth-century inventions and the rapid rise of industrial change. I reflected on our current times and the need for acceptance for all types of diversity. My thoughts took me into an imaginary world of ancient myths, dancing sea swimmers, cage crinolines, and magical palaces.
